Vineyard
Sources
2008 Gemella Viognier - was grown in small sun-kissed and windswept
vineyard blocks in the cooler southern end of the Napa Valley. One
block is located in Oak Knoll, while the other vineyard block is
located in Carneros and is grown by Larry Hyde. Harvest timing was
essential, allowing for full flavor development and phenolic maturity
in the skins.
2005
Petite Sirah Port - was sourced from 60 year old vines planted
by an Italian family in a small vineyard next to their home in Mendocino
County. The old vine stress, the volcanic soil, and the warm climate
combine harmoniously to create Petite Sirah clusters of the highest
quality and the best potential for killer vintage port.
The
Wines
2008 Gemella Viognier - Once the desired flavors were at their
peak, the fruit was gently whole cluster pressed while very cold
and slowly fermented in neutral French oak barrels until complete
dryness. Throughout the winemaking process Jay was driven to capture
the essence of the Viognier varietal profile while handcrafting
a white wine with as much complexity and excitement as the Buoncristiani
reds. The aroma exhibits layers of fresh white peaches, apricots,
honeysuckle, subtle vanilla, and sweet spices. Flavors on the palate
mirror white stone fruits, minerals, and exotic spices with a full
body and a long finish with vibrant acidity. (244 cases handcrafted)
2005
Petite Sirah Port - Clusters of late harvested old vine Petite
Sirah gems are the backbone of this Vintage Port. The other main
component is ultra premium brandy, hand distilled by the master
Hubert Germain-Robin. The result of marrying these two liquid gems
together at just the right time during fermentation has produced
an unctuous, inky, ultra ripe, opulent port with intense black fruit
flavors and super rich velvety tannins. The mouthfeel is heavenly
and the finish of the wine lasts for over 60 seconds as it slowly
melts away. (74 cases handcrafted)
